A Hole Inside

The gaping maw
of a hole inside;
wondering if I’ll
get out alive.

Like Odysseus
in Cyclops’s lair ¹;
the way out’s clear,
if I only dare.

So I pick up the pen
and start to write;
the day breaks bright,
after the dead of night.
